In the legacy of the Explorer, 36mm has long been part of the story. But link in 2010, Rolex announced the 214270 with a larger 39mm case size. Now, 11 years later, and following the discontinuation of the 39mm link Oyster Perpetual, the Explorer is back at 36mm. Why the change? Rolex isn't saying, but it's fun to guess. Maybe the 39mm sizing was link too close to the 40mm proportions of watches like the Submariner and the GMT-Master.

In solid 18k yellow gold with a black dial, this commemorative 42mm Speedmaster has a special caseback and link is exclusively for those who link have won the Hawking prize, and was never offered for sale. Given Neil deGrasse Tyson's position as a champion of space, time, and the sciences, we can't imagine a more appropriate link watch and it was nothing short of a thrill to meet him and see the Starmus Speedy on his wrist.
