Wallpaper is a versatile and widely available material for decorating walls.
There's currently a growing interest in using wallpaper in interiors. This is largely due to the wide selection of textures, colors, and patterns.
Modern wallpapers boast superior aesthetic and performance properties compared to their predecessors. They are more resistant to wear, fading, and mechanical damage.
When choosing wallpaper, you should consider the interior style, color scheme and purpose of the room.
So, the first thing we consider when choosing wallpaper is the material it's made of. Let's look at the most common ones.
Dark wallpaper in the hallway is not only practical but also striking. It immediately creates a feeling of comfort and coziness. You're home.
Paper wallpaper
The base is thick paper onto which prints, paint, etc. are applied.
+ environmentally friendly
+ breathable
+ easy to stick
- not resistant to mechanical damage
- absorb odors
- they burn out quite quickly
❗ When purchasing, pay attention to the density of the material; the thicker the paper, the more durable the wallpaper.
Wallpaper is a cool decorative technique.
Non-woven wallpaper
It's a non-woven material made from cellulose and textile fibers, coated with a polymer binder.
+ environmentally friendly
+ breathable
+ easy to stick
+resistant to mechanical damage
+ moisture-resistant
+ washable (with a damp cloth, without abrasives)
+ do not shrink
- relatively high price
❗Choose Russian manufacturers, then the price won't be too high.
Wallpaper combined with paint looks impressive and very modern.
Vinyl wallpaper
These are always two-layer wallpapers. The bottom layer is paper or non-woven, and the top layer is polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
+ complex reliefs
+ easy to stick
+ washable (with a damp cloth, without abrasives)
+ hide minor unevenness of walls
- not environmentally friendly
- not breathable
- not resistant to mechanical damage
Choose high-quality wallpaper from trusted manufacturers. Cheap options can be toxic.
All of these types are the most common and affordable wallpaper options. They are available from both European and Russian manufacturers.
Wallpaper is simply irreplaceable in a classic interior.
Textile wallpaper
Fabric wallpaper with a non-woven or paper backing. The top layer is made of natural or synthetic materials.
+ original designs
+ environmentally friendly
- high price
- difficulty in gluing
- susceptible to contamination
❗Clean such wallpaper only with a vacuum cleaner or a soft-bristled brush.
Wallpaper will never make a wall look empty.
Metallic wallpaper
This wallpaper features a decorative layer of aluminum foil. The backing is thick paper or non-woven. Metallic wallpaper can come in gold, silver, or bronze shades. For an even more striking effect, textured patterns or hand-painted designs are applied.
+ resistant to ultraviolet radiation
+ sound-absorbing
+ easy to care for
- "not breathing"
- careful preparation of the walls is necessary
- high price
❗Such wallpapers are quite expensive, but they look original and luxurious.
