Risks of general anesthesia in dental procedures (87 อ่าน)

I’ve read that general anesthesia is sometimes used for complex oral surgeries. What are the main risks involved, and how do they compare with those of IV sedation or local anesthesia?

General anesthesia is mainly used for long or complex oral surgeries. While it ensures full unconsciousness and pain control, it carries higher risks such as nausea, sore throat, or rare breathing issues. To learn more about safety and options for anesthesia in oral surgery, visit https://villagedentalmedicine.com/anesthesia-in-oral-surgery-local-sedation-and-general/. IV sedation and local anesthesia are safer for shorter, simpler procedures since you stay partly conscious.

That’s a really valuable topic to discuss since general anesthesia in dental procedures does carry certain risks. While complications are uncommon, they can include breathing difficulties, allergic reactions, and slower recovery, especially for patients with existing health issues. Proper pre-surgery evaluation and having an experienced anesthesiologist make a big difference. Have you or someone you know experienced any side effects after dental anesthesia?

I didn’t realize general anesthesia is usually reserved for major surgeries. The breathing risk sounds serious, so I’d definitely prefer lighter sedation if possible.

Exactly, most patients do well with IV or local anesthesia.
