How Saves Work

A save is credited to a relief pitcher if they finish a game your team wins under certain conditions:

Scenario Condition to Earn Save

Lead of 3 runs or fewer Pitch at least 1 inning and finish the game

Tying run on deck Enter the game with the tying run at the plate, on base, or on deck

Any run lead Pitch the final 3 innings of the game

Understanding these rules is key to grinding efficiently.

Core Strategies for Fast Saves

1. The Intentional Walk Trick

If you’re ahead by more than 3 runs, you can still create a save situation:

Intentionally walk batters until the tying run is on deck.

Bring in your reliever to get the final out.

Because the tying run was on deck when they entered, the game awards a save—even if you’re still winning big.

This “cheese” method is great for programs that need quick save accumulation.

2. 3-Inning Saves in 9-Inning Games

Even in full-length games, you can earn a save if your pitcher finishes the last 3 innings:

Start your starter (SP) to get the first 6 innings done.

Bring in a closer or setup reliever for the final 3 innings.

The final reliever automatically gets a save, no matter how big your lead.

This works particularly well if you want long PXP grinds or milestone missions.

3. Choosing the Right Game Modes

Some modes let you get saves faster:

Conquest: Quick 3-inning games make it easy to keep the score manageable and grind saves efficiently.

Mini Seasons (WBC): Offers repeatable rewards alongside save accumulation, making it ideal for multiple runs.

Make your grind less tedious:

Turn on Quick CPU Pitching to speed up pitches.

Use Fast Play presentation to skip cutscenes and announcer chatter.
