The Importance of Keeping Larger Empty Spaces in Block Blast (26 views)

Introduction
I find it useful to keep some larger empty areas on the board in Block Blast because these spaces give me more flexibility when a large block appears unexpectedly. Although it may seem like a***d idea to fill every available space as quickly as possible, I believe that leaving some areas empty is an important strategy for achieving a higher score and lasting longer in the game. By keeping enough open space on the board, I can prepare for different block shapes, plan my next moves, and avoid getting stuck in difficult situations.
Why Larger Empty Spaces Are Important
One of the main reasons I prefer to keep larger empty spaces is that the blocks in Block Blast come in different shapes and sizes. Sometimes, I receive a large block that requires a significant amount of room, and if the board is already crowded, it can be difficult to find a suitable place for it. Having larger empty areas gives me more options and allows me to place these blocks without disrupting the entire arrangement of the board.
Another benefit of leaving empty spaces is that it helps me maintain control over the game. Instead of making random moves, I can think carefully about where each block should go and how it will affect the remaining space. This makes my gameplay more organized and helps me avoid unnecessary mistakes.
Strategies for Maintaining Empty Spaces
To make the most of the available space, I try to follow several strategies when playing Block Blast:
Avoid filling every gap immediately: I do not always place a block in the first available space. Instead, I consider whether leaving that area open might be more useful for a future block.
Keep larger areas open when possible: I try to preserve spaces that can accommodate bigger blocks, especially those with unusual shapes that may be difficult to place elsewhere.
Plan my moves ahead: Before placing a block, I look at the board and consider how the move might affect my options for the next few turns.
Clear rows and columns strategically: I try to complete rows or columns when doing so creates more useful space without leaving the board too crowded.
Maintain a balanced board: I avoid concentrating too many blocks in one area because this can make it harder to use the remaining spaces effectively.
Dealing with Unexpected Large Blocks
Keeping larger empty spaces becomes especially important when an unexpected large block appears. Even if I have been making***d moves, one difficult piece can create a problem when there is not enough room to place it. By leaving open areas throughout the board, I give myself more opportunities to handle these situations.
For example, if I receive a large square-shaped block, I need an area with enough room to fit the entire piece. If I have already filled most of the board with smaller blocks, I might not be able to place it anywhere. However, if I have preserved a larger open section, I can place the block more easily and continue playing without losing valuable opportunities.
This approach also helps me stay calm and think more clearly. Rather than rushing to place every block, I can consider the possible consequences of each move and choose the option that best supports my overall strategy.
Balancing Empty Space and Scoring Opportunities
Although keeping empty spaces is helpful, I understand that leaving too much of the board unused is not always the best strategy. Block Blast requires me to clear rows and columns to create more room and earn points. Therefore, I need to find a balance between maintaining open areas and clearing completed lines.
The most effective approach is to use empty spaces carefully rather than avoid filling them altogether. When I see an opportunity to clear a row or column without losing an important open area, I try to take advantage of it. This allows me to earn points while preserving enough flexibility for future blocks.
By balancing these two goals, I can make better decisions and prevent the board from becoming overcrowded too quickly.
